Scrooge - Resourceful Miser

 (Scotch Millionaire)

In all honesty, a Billionaire cocktail would have been more appropriate for the richest duck in the world. However that requires one to make their own absinthe bitters which we weren't going to purchase ingredients for. Instead we went with the much more accessible Millionaire cocktail as a template. The Millionaire is traditionally made with bourbon, but as we're evoking Scrooge Mcduck in full tartan, it only seemed appropriate that we use a Scottish whisky instead.

Our spin on the Millionaire utilizes Dailuaine 16 year single malt as its base. We had first experienced this whisky on our honeymoon in Scotland, and it remains one of our go-to Speysides to this day. Every time we find ourselves in the UK, we make sure to pick up a bottle or two of Dailuaine as it's both expensive and a chore to find it stateside. This whisky is heavily sherried and contains notes of baking spices and orange making it perfect for this sweet but decadent drink.

Recipe

2 oz Dailuaine 16 year
1/2 oz orange liqueur
1/3 oz grenadine
1/4 oz anise syrup
2 dashes orange bitters
3/4 oz lemon juice
1 egg white

Boil 1/3 cup of white sugar with equal parts water and 2 pieces of star anise and allow to cool to create anise syrup. Combine all the listed ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake to combine. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.
