Diablo - Devoted Herald

 (Yuzu Midori Sour)

Diablo - Devoted Herald: bane of Lorcana players and wallets alike. As the chase card of Ursula's Return, we would be remiss to not design a drink around it. Fun fact: you can purchase all the ingredients for this drink for less than the price of the card itself!

DLC Chicago just concluded this weekend, with the winner piloting Emerald/Steel Bucky Discard. The deck combines Bucky - Squirrel Speak Tutor with a flurry of Floodborn characters to shred the opponent's hand. While the deck made a brief appearance in previous months, it was not until Ursula's Return that a sufficient density of lost cost Floodborns was available to make Bucky a consistent threat. Particularly, Diablo can come down as early as turn 2 in combination with Bucky to  provide an immediate card advantage engine. It's a brutal combination, and an unanswered Diablo will leave your opponent feeling sour about the game.

With that in mind, Diablo's bright green color immediately brought us to a Midori Sour. The classic Midori Sour is a drink you may associate with party drinks at a nightclub, and consists of a combination of Midori, vodka, and lemon - topped with a splash of soda water. By definition it is very loosely defined as a sour cocktail.

Here we have brought the drink closer to the traditional definition of a sour while also providing more flavor balance. As Midori is extremely sweet, we have found that yuzu juice balances the flavors much better than lemon. Yuzu's fragrance and hyper sour notes offset the Midori's high sugar content. The addition of a traditional sour egg white foam makes for a sip that both puckers and delights!

Recipe
3/4 oz Yuzu juice
1.5 oz Midori
1.5 oz Vodka
1 Egg white

Combine all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with yuzu peel.
