Hades - King of Olympus

 (Smoke-Touched Godfather)

One of the coolest features of Lorcana is the Floodborn mechanic: alternative universe versions of the characters we know and love (or hate). In today's case, we have Hades - King of Olympus. Unlike in canon, this Hades won in his bid to claim Mount Olympus. Any drink honoring him should glorify this achievement while also channeling the core of Hades' character.

Disney's portrayal of Hades is a cool and collected villain that also harbors burning resentment for his brother Zeus and is prone to literally bursting into flames in fits of anger. Here, we have interpreted this character in the form of a Godfather, a smooth old-school drink that combines Scotch with Amaretto, but with an added touch of smoke flavor. 

Although a Godfather is usually made with blended Scotch, here we have instead utilized Glenlivet 15 Year single malt as the base of the drink. Glenlivet 15 is extremely vanilla forward, making it an excellent complement to the sweet almond flavor of the Amaretto and the cherry of the Luxardo. Finally, we finish by drizzling a dash of peated Scotch, Ledaig 10 Year, over the top of the mixed drink. 

The resulting concoction immediately provokes your senses with a light smell of burnt wood before you even take a sip. On first taste, that smoke quickly yields to the sweet components of the drink in celebration. The smoke flavor then returns in the finishing notes as a reminder of who is now in charge - Hades, now king over all.  

Recipe
1.5 oz Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve
0.75 oz Amaretto Liqueur
0.25 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
Dash of Ledaig 10 Year Old

Fill a mixing glass with one cup of ice. Add Glenlivet, Amaretto, and Luxardo, and stir to combine. Strain mixture into a lowball glass filled with fresh ice. Top with the dash of Ledaig, or another moderately peated Scotch, and garnish with a Marachino cherry.
